Igor: The Paris Years, one segment of a larger biographical program created for Channel 4 on the life and times of Igor Stravinsky, finds the brothers working in a slightly different vein than the one that would come to characterize their later work. This is the first section, which covers the pianist’s “French period” from roughly 1920-1939, and it details, among other things, his connection with Jean Cocteau (who, as a matter of fact, contributes voice work to this project). Filtered through gonzo and impressionistic puppetry (often bearing strong resemblance to the work of Terry Gilliam), the film takes an unconventional and often beautiful stab at the television biography special.

This documentary is an informal portrait of the great modern composer Igor Stravinsky. Proudly American, though still very much an Old World figure with a long and alert memory for people and events in music, literature and art, Stravinsky is depicted here conducting the CBC Symphony Orchestra in a recording of his Symphony of Psalms.

The television film tells about specialists dealing with the environmental problems of Siberian rivers and searching for engineering solutions for new methods of log driving. It is also a film about the personal, deeply dramatic relationships of the characters.

L’ultimo Pulcinella, il film diretto da Maurizio Scaparro, protagonista Massimo Ranieri, girato fra Napoli e Parigi, ripercorre il viaggio di un attore napoletano, Michelangelo che ostinatamente recita e canta a Napoli il suo Pulcinella dove può, e che , improvvisamente, è costretto a lasciare Napoli per cercare suo figlio Francesco che è scappato nelle banlieues parigine per aver assistito a un omicidio di camorra. A Parigi Michelangelo ritrova un suo vecchio amico professore della Sorbona che lo aiuta a riconquistare la fiducia del figlio, ma soprattutto conosce Marie ex attrice di teatro senza età, rinchiusa in un vecchio e cadente teatro nelle banlieues di cui è proprietaria e ormai custode. Tutti insieme e con l’aiuto di Cecilia, una ragazza napoletana legata a molti giovani del quartiere (maghrebini, francesi , italiani), decidono di realizzare un sogno che fu già di tanti italiani del passato, “les italiens”: rimettono in piedi il vecchio teatro e cercano di mettere in scena uno spettacolo ispirato a un soggetto inedito di Roberto Rossellini su Pulcinella. Malgrado le difficoltà di vita del quartiere e le tensioni crescenti con la polizia Michelangelo cercherà di creare uno spazio dove possa essere nuovamente riconosciuta la dignità e l’utilità di aprirsi ai sentimenti, di parlare, recitare, cantare a Parigi a Napoli, in Europa oggi.
